Michael, I did something incredibly stupid and cut my finger to the point where I needed stitches. I went to your facility (for the first time) and was very impressed with the people there. Everyone was kind and courteous and I was seen in a reasonable amount of time. I would definitely recommend The Urgency Room to friends and family. Dr. Shafe' was awesome!

This is by far the best place to go for all of your urgent care needs in the Northland. I have visited this place twice in the past year and everytime the wait time is no more than ten minutes and the staff is friendly always! Not to mention Dr. Shafe and Dr. Thomas are really caring physicians that listen and are always very compassionate in their care of your aliment. The first time I went I thought I was in the wrong building. I was so impressed with the waiting area I didn't believe it to be an urgent care. After the excellent service I knew this would be the only place I would go from now on.

Wife went for hemorrhoids treatment. Dr. Michael Shafe was great, excellent 'bedside manners', very professional, got the job done very well. Dr. Shafe is one of the best, if not the best, urgent care physicians you could find. Wish I could have him as my personal physician.

My 3 year old took a spill at daycare and put his bottom teeth through his lip-OUCH! As a first time mom, who works a lot, I was scared and felt bad for not being there. I was more upset than my son was! The doctor and staff were kind to me- the neurotic mom- and made my son comfortable. He was quite pleased to be able to watch SpongeBob in the office! We were in and out in an extremely timely fashion without being rushed. My son healed just fine and my paranoia was not a hindrance to being treated with respect. All of my concerns were addressed intelligently and appropriately.

About a month later, I went in because I had been sick for weeks. The doctor saw me as quickly as he could and made sure that I received a breathing treatment right away to ease my labored breathing. I didn’t have to miss work or pay a large fee to wait 9 hours in the ER. He was understanding and I felt like he listened which, sadly, is a rarity. He got me my medicine there so I could go home and get some much needed rest rather than sitting in a pharmacy for 45 minutes.

They can’t teach bedside manner like the Doctors at the Urgency Room have!

I came in yesterday (08/21/08) for the very first time. My right foot/ankle had been bothering me the last few days, and yesterday afternoon it “popped” and started swelling. I knew it wasn’t broke, but it was pretty swollen. Fluid was building up and I was unable to bear almost any weight on it at all. I had to do something, because otherwise I wouldn’t be able to chase my 1yr old!

I knew it wasn’t major enough to constitute a trip to the emergency room, and I didn’t want to sit in an ER for 15hrs waiting because I knew my injury would be at the bottom of the “triage totem-pole.” I couldn’t go to my doctor’s office, because if by some chance they felt an x-ray was warranted, they didn’t have radiology available in their office and I would have to take another trip somewhere else. So, a friend referred me to your facility. I was totally impressed!

After working in the EMS service for the past five years, I thought I had a pretty good idea as to how things were going to go. “…Stay off of it, do heat and ice, and keep it elevated…” was the line I was expecting to hear, and then be rushed right out the door. I figured I’d be in and out in about 10 minutes, honestly.

I could not have been more wrong. I walked in, filled out the paperwork, and waited in the waiting area for no longer than 10 minutes. The décor is absolutely stunning, and has a very warm, charming, comfortable, home-like environment. I have been to numerous clinics in my life working in the Transport business, and never have I seen a facility as stunning as yours! On top of it, every single one of your staff had a smile on their face and made me feel as though you really paid attention to what I was saying and took the time to listen to me.

I then had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Mike Shafe', Medical Director. While he treated my injury, we chatted a bit and he briefly shared his belief in medicine being an “art” and not a “business”, and focusing on true patient care and bedside manner instead of dollar signs and rushing to get to the next person. I was astounded to hear a physician say that. Let me tell you people, after working in a hospital for 4 1/2yrs, that kind of approach and persona just isn’t around much anymore!

I’m sure many of you know this feeling…that you are nothing but a co-pay to your doctor if you’ve ever been sick or injured. Not at this place. Not with this staff.

Yesterday was the first time in my life that I have ever been to an urgent care center. Needless to say, from this point on, you guys will be the ONLY urgent care center that I go to! Knowing you have an on-site pharmacy and can save me an extra stop on the way home, as well as PEDIATRIC care capabilities…it’s beyond excellent!

Thank you so much for setting a new standard, and challenging the “norm” of patient care!

If anyone needs urgent care services for themselves or their children in the Northland, I highly recommend the Urgency Room at 10015 North Ambassador Drive, KCMO, off of I-29 at the Tiffany Springs exit.

I ended up there this weekend with a severe stomach bug and the doctors and staff were extremely friendly, compassionate, and saw me in a timely manner. The doctor, Michael Shafe, M.D., stayed more than an hour past closing time to treat me, provided me with the necessary medications compliments of the clinic because the pharmacies were already closed for the night, and even walked us out to our car with an umbrella because it had started raining. The facility was nice, new and comfortable, and even had flat screen TV's in each room, which kept my husband occupied while we were waiting. I'm not usually one to plug businesses, but the care I got there was so exceptional that I wanted to spread the word.

I am the mother of the 40 year old Cystic Fibrosis patient who came to you for a flu test a few weeks ago. She was prescribed Tamiflu and Levaquin and has recovered. Amen! You may remember, I am a retired RN (been an RN for 49 years). It helps to have a medical background when you raise 2 daughters with CF. My purpose in writing is to tell you how impressed I am with you and your style of practice. You came in the room and sat down and took the time to talk to her and then physically assess her and then talk some more. I complimented you that day and I meant it very sincerely. I have very high standards and you exceed them and then some. I have shared this very positive experience with many people and I have handed out all the magnets you gave me. If something takes me to the area of your location again I will come in and pick up more magnets because I am still sharing the experience when opportunity presents itself!!!

I recently brought my daughter in for pink eye. She was seen right away and we were able to get her drops right there so I didn't have to get her out of the car again. I was able to make it to work on time. Everyone was very helpful and it was a very pleasant experience. Thank you very much!!

Having used the Urgency Room for Workman's comp injuries and for my family, I cannot express the thanks we have for the service received at your office. The staff is above exceptional; the Dr.'s are compassionate, informative and caring. The thorough treatment and communication from the Dr.'s is a welcomed change to the routine office visits generally received from other offices. Within minutes of seeing an employee for a work related injury, Dr. Shafe personally called me with an update. Immediately ending that call, I called Workman's comp to give them the update and was advised the Urgency Room had already spoken with them and they had all the information they needed. They also commended the professionalism and promptness of the Urgency Room. My son visited the Urgency Room last week. We were immediately seen by the Dr., we were given helpful information to see us through his illness and his prescription was filled there so we did not have to wait and hour or more at a pharmacy. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff, office or location of the Urgency Room. No doubt, this is the place you want to be seen if you are injured or ill. Thank you for the compassionate and caring way you take care of us.

The warm family atmosphere The Urgency Room offers can't compare to ANY emergency room in a hospital. After receiving care from the military, I thought it was going to be impossible to receive that level of treatment again. That is until I went here. The Doctor here was absolutely fabulous! I walked in and got seen immediately by the nurse and from prior experience I thought it would be a while before seeing the doc, but it wasn't like that. He was in there immediately following and that wasn't even the kicker! He was actually extremely friendly and honest with me, the kind of doctor that is there for the patients and not for the money. The best 8 stitches I've ever received!! Either way, if you need urgent care and you live in the Northland, this is the place to go! Bar None!!!

My family has used the urgency many times since they opened in August and we has always received top care with very little wait.This facility has flat screen cable tv in the patient rooms which makes any visit with kids much easier. The Doctors have always been very personable and taken time to understand your needs and inform you of options. We have received our bills and they are much cheaper than out family practice urgent care. We have visited this facility 5 times and been happy each time. We have also shared this with many others and have 3 friends that have used this service all with the same satisfaction.

The Urgency Room is a wonderful experience for those who have not been there. I recently got extremely ill and had been seen at an area hospital not once, but 2 times within a few days. The Drs at the hospital were overwhelmed and pushing patients through without thought to their ailments. After having a fever for more than 7 days and in extreme pain due to an infection, I went to the Urgency Room to see if they could help me. Missy was a wonderful breathe of fresh air when I walked in. She did what was necessary for me to be seen by a doctor as soon as she could. Dr. Tyler Thomas was the physician I saw. I could not have been more pleased! He took his time to determine what was wrong, informed me that the pain was due to the severe infection and gave me the antibiotics and cough medicine that I needed. He went out of his way to help me out and within 3 hours of taking the medicine that he prescribed, my fever finally broke and I was feeling better than I had in over 9 days. To say the least, I should have gone there first instead of waiting over 6 hours on 2 different occasions and spending alot more money on the ER visit, where I only got worse instead of better and I would not have missed any more time from work than was absolutely needed. We use the Urgency Room for our Corporation, but I will definitely being going back for personal illnesses. Everyone at the Urgency Room cares about people and their well-being. There is not another place in the Northland that takes such good care of people.

Dear Dr. Shafe,
Recently I had the misfortune of accidentally cutting my head. The physician-on-call in my doctor’s group recommended that I go to your office instead of to a hospital emergency room. He said that I would receive quality service and in a far shorter time than in a hospital emergency room. He was absolutely right. Your reception staff was so polite and helpful and I was seen almost immediately by the attending physician, which I now found out was you. You were so congenial, cordial, and efficient that it actually put me at great ease to be in an emergency room. Your friendliness, cheerfulness, and expert handling of my wound and the correctly suggested after-care actually left me very glad that I didn’t go to a hospital instead. Fast and excellent service, given by a most friendly staff of receptionists and doctors, is certainly the prescription for emergency care.
Thank you so much for the pleasant experience in the less-than-desirable predicament of injury. I will most certainly recommend you to everyone. You and your staff deserve it.

Hello neighbors....I wanted to pass along to each of you that I had the most wonderful Urgent Care experience - if there is such a thing - at our new location in Platte County. The Urgency Room is located just north of the Embassy Suites off Tiffany Parkway. More specific 10015 N. Ambassador Drive KC MO. Their phone number is 595-400 Hours of operation 7:30 a.m. to 8 pm. Monday -Friday. Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 pm. and Sunday noon to 6 pm. This is a wonderful facility. Brand new, clean, flat screens in all rooms, scripts or meds can be filled right there - no going to pharmacy after visit. I was very very impressed and wanted to make sure that everyone knows of this new location in case the need arises. They were great with both myself and my daughter Carlie who is just 3 years old. No wait - clean, clean clean!

I just want to express my deepest thanks and highest praise for Dr. Mike and staff at The Urgency Room. I experienced little to no wait time, was taken immediately in for X-ray and received the results almost immediately as well. I felt like they really listened to me, and that none of my questions were dumb ones. The Doc's and staff were all very kind, attentive, considerate and professional. Quite honestly, I have never had a better medical experience. There is NO WAY any emergency room could meet with the standards of The Urgency Room. I would recommend no other place to anyone needing urgent care. If I had my way about it, I would want Dr. Shafe' as my primary care physician...his care was that comprehensive and personal. Again, I just want to extend my deepest appreciation for the care I received.

Today when I picked my 2yr old son up from daycare, his provider told me he had a rash on his stomach. I checked it out, and from experience knew it looked like a strep rash. I called our family doctor but they referred me to the Urgency Room because they were packed. We had never been here before and usually we would have went to the nearby children's hospital. I didn't know what to expect. The staff was so polite, organized and eager to help. We were taken to a room, which by the way had its own television and cable tv. The cartoons were a lifesaver while we waited for the Dr. It wasn't very long before we were seen. Dr. Shafe was so good with my son. If ever there is a pleasurable experience, this was it. I will highly recommend the Urgency Room to family and friends! Thank you so much Dr. Shafe!
